Your Complete Driver’s Licence Guide from Laurentian Driving School

Introduction

Ontario’s graduated licensing system includes three key stages: the G1 written test, the G2 road test (G1 Exit), and the G road test (G2 Exit). Laurentian Driving School is here to support you through every step with expert instruction, flexible BDE course options, and a reputation for helping students pass with confidence.

Whether you’re a first-time driver, a nervous student, or new to driving in Canada, our certified team makes the process easy, safe, and successful.

G1 Licence – Written Knowledge Test Preparation

The first step in Ontario’s graduated licensing system is the G1 written knowledge test. This test evaluates your understanding of road rules, signs, and safe driving practices, and allows you to get a learner’s permit to start driving. To pass, you need to correctly answer at least 16 out of 20 questions in each of the two sections: road signs and rules of the road.

At Laurentian Driving School, we help new drivers build a strong foundation through:

  • MTO-approved Beginner Driver Education (BDE) courses that include theory and practical driving from experienced, patient instructors
  • Structured theory modules and study tools
  • Support with studying for the written test through recommended prep tools

G2 Licence – Preparing for the G1 Exit Road Test

Once you’ve held your G1 for at least 12 months—or just 8 months with an approved BDE course like ours— you’re eligible to take the G2 road test. Also known as the G1 Exit, this test assesses basic driving skills on regular roads. In preparation for this test, you must practice with a fully licensed driver (Class G or higher) who has at least four years of driving experience.
